Orthodox churches in Elbasan according to the testimony of Sergio Bettini
Note: this material was made possible thanks to the Albanologist Lucia Nadin, who, during a visit to the University of Elbasan, brought several chapters of the book "The Turbulent Voyage of Art Criticism. Unpublished writings of Sergio Bettini (1936-1977)", exactly those chapters where Albania was talked about. According to the researcher, these pages are of interest to our country. A copy of this book is in the National Library. Sergio Bettini (1905-1986) is an Italian researcher who had a leading role in Italy in the history of art discipline, emphasizing through his studies the issues of research methodology. In the 30s of the century XX was a lecturer at the University of Padua, in the History of Byzantine Art, Christian Archaeology, and later in the History of Medieval Art and Aesthetics, History and Art Criticism. Highly sensitive to the cultural changes of his era, Bettini brought to Italy themes and methods of research from the most advanced European schools such as the Vienna School, structuralism, semiology and phenomenology. Numerous and original, his writings were published from 1930 to 1986. We mention some of the monographs such as: "Architecture of Saint Mark. Origin and Meaning (1946)”, “Art at the End of the Ancient World (1948)”, “Venice. The Birth of a City (1978)”.
