Application of the interdisciplinary approach in primary education
The interdisciplinary approach is a requirement of the new curriculum, which aims to integrate knowledge from different fields to promote comprehensive and understandable learning for students. This study aimed to examine the implementation of the interdisciplinary approach in primary education in Kosovo, by analyzing teachers' perceptions and experiences, the opportunities and challenges they face during the implementation of this approach. To achieve the goal set for this study, we used a combined methodology, combining quantitative and qualitative approaches. We collected data through questionnaires with primary education teachers, interviews with heads of professional assets (school departments) in primary education, as well as through the analysis of lesson plans (annual, bimonthly, weekly plans and lesson preparations) developed by primary education teachers. The research population consists of primary education teachers in public schools in Kosovo, while the sample was selected based on several criteria, which ensure a balanced representation of teachers in different schools. The results show that the implementation of the interdisciplinary approach in the teaching process in primary education is limited. Positive attitudes and the use of some practices of the interdisciplinary approach show an effort and willingness of teachers to implement it. To ensure effective implementation, it is necessary to support teachers with adequate training, concrete instructions, necessary teaching resources and materials, technological equipment, improvement of infrastructure, as well as effective cooperation between teachers.
