Mesenchymal stem cells, reaction to implant surfaces towards osteointegration
Change in relief or content of the implant surfaces is intended to positively alter the response of implant stem cells to promote implant osteointegration. This intervention aims at accelerating the procedure of successful implant osteointegration with the surrounding tissues, and further at the faster functions of the implants. There are many articles in the literature that emphasize the different ways of modification of implant surfaces which aim at modification in the surface relief, performed by laser or ultrasound, or in the qualitative content of this relief, such as the addition of different ions, or application of stimulants of the integration process, mainly recombinant proteins. The introduction of these manufactured implants on the market and the acquisition of clinical results are another novelty of the articles already published in the literature, which aim to show with clinical data the effect of these micro-interventions on implant surfaces. Based on research in the published literature on the response of mesenchymal stem cells to implant surfaces, it is noted that the importance of accurately implementing the stages of the implant treatment protocol, is the key to success, at achieving implant osteointegration as early as possible, regardless of the type of implant. Osteointegration is a procedure that must be initiated physiologically regardless of the type of implant material.
