Epidemiology of covid-19 in Albania
Abstract
Coronaviruses are pathogens of human and animals. In December 2019, pneumonia caused by unknown caused occurred in Wuhan, Hubei Province, China. On January 7, 2020, a new coronavirus, a severe and acute characteristic of respiratory coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2), is identified in most of a patient’s swabs. The World Health Organization (WHO) declare an epidemic disease caused by SARS-CoV-2 as a coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Currently, COVID-19 is being reported all over the world. China, with a heavy burden of the disease, has taken strong measures to control and improve the curative rate of COVID-19.
Aim of this study : Assessment of the epidemiological situation SarsCov2 in Albania.
Methodology: Descriptive investigation based on daily and monthly reports from the Ministry of Health and Social Protection. The investigation consisted of the assessment of incidence levels at the country level during the period March-September, the incidence levels by regions as well as the assessment of the mortality rate because of COVID-19 virus infections.
Results and discussion: Low number of tests - deficiencies in case tracking; Non-implementation of protocols by the population after quarantine removal; Increased incidence levels with removal of restrictions (June / 2020 ongoing) High mortality rate but lower compared to the countries of the region.
