The place of the Islamic terminological lexicon in the explanatory dictionaries of Albanian language (1954, 1980, 2006)
Although Albanian lexicography has a long tradition, which began with Frang Bardhi’s Dictionary, until recently the Albanian language lacked an explanatory dictionary where its lexical richness would be represented. Such a large-scale national work was made possible only in 1954, when the first explanatory dictionary of the Albanian language was published, including the most significant part of the Albanian lexicon. This dictionary, and subsequent explanatory dictionaries, also included Islamic terminology. It is of interest to see the background of this terminological lexicon as well as the explanation of Islamic terms in all three explanatory dictionaries. Some terms included in the 1954 dictionary are missing in the 1980 and 2006 dictionaries; some others were included in the 1980 dictionary but are missing in the other two, or are included in the 2006 dictionary but missing in the earlier ones. The reasons for including or excluding a term in a dictionary are different and specific to each language.
